A SOCIETY has raised hundreds of pounds for St Helena Hospice through a charity quiz night.

The Harwich Society Quiz Team runs quiz nights on the first Monday of every month at the Royal Oak pub, in Dovercourt, to raise funds for the Harwich Society.

The team also hold quizzes for good local causes.

On Monday night, the Royal Oak was packed for a quiz in aid of St Helena Hospice which raised a total of £300.

The society’s quiz master Colin Perry said: “We like to think we offer a good quiz with a lot of laughs and there was certainly a lot of laughter at our quiz for St Helena Hospice.

"If you can raise money for a very good cause while having a good time then it’s not a bad way to spend an evening.”

A total of 12 teams with 65 people took part in the quiz.

The Royal Oak donated the venue for free and the next Harwich Society quiz night will be on Monday, February 3.

Mr Perry added: “You don’t have to be a member of the Harwich Society to take part in our quiz nights and we are always pleased to see new faces.

“Our next monthly quiz is on February 3 and I’m sure everyone will be laughing as much as they were at our quiz for St Helena Hospice.”
