A PUB has donated £1,000 to help Manningtree’s first responders.

Staff from The Red Lion pub, in Manningtree, gave the generous amount, raised through their events like a Mexican band night, to the Manningtree Community First Responders.

The money will go towards buying a new training dummy for the group as the current dummy is about ten years old and needs replacing.

The first responders are volunteers who attend life threatening emergencies in the local area.

Last year the team of 21 volunteers covered 18,376 hours between them and attended 624 call outs.

The volunteers also give free heart-start courses and more than 200 residents were given CPR training last year.

A spokesman for the first responders said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to owners Josie Merrick and Tom West and the rest of the team from The Red Lion, Manningtree, for their generosity and to everyone else who supports the group.

“We are looking for more volunteers to cover daytime cover especially in the Dedham and Bradfield area but all areas local to Manningtree are welcome.
