COLCHESTER has lost 35 pubs since 2001.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics looked at the growth in the pub and bar industry across the UK.
The total number of pubs and bars in the UK increased by 315, or 0.8 per cent, last year.
The statistics showed there were around 4.9 pubs per 10,000 people in Colchester, lower than the UK average.

It says there are now around 35 fewer pubs in Colchester than in 2001 when there were 130 across the borough.
But the number of jobs in pubs and bars increased by 11.1 per cent since 2001. There are now thought to be 1,000 jobs in the industry in Colchester.
