A SWIMMING instructor who has dedicated 30 years to keeping people safe in the water has been recognised with an award.

Lynn Williamson, 67, who teaches at Leisure World in Colchester, has been presented with the Royal Life Saving Society gong.

The awards see thousands of volunteers were recognised for the outstanding contribution they make to help to keep people safe in, on and near water.

Lynn was handed a 2nd Bar to the Service Cross at Worcester Cathedral recognising her work.

Lynn teaches future lifeguards lifesaving skills, including First Aid, CPR and how to use a defibrillator.

Lynn, a trainer assessor, said: “Teaching people not only how to save lives in water, but also first aid and how to use difibrillator are essential in everyday life and real-life situations.

“It is so rewarding being able to teach people skills to save lives.

“I love my job; I love working with people and helping them to develop.”

Theresa Higgins, Colchester Council’s councillor responsible for commercial services, said: “I would like to congratulate Lynn. Everyone should learn how to swim safely and instructors like Lynn emphasise Leisure World’s commitment to take swimming seriously.

“I would encourage anyone interested in enrolling for swimming lessons or qualifications, whether for a child or adult, to speak with Leisure World’s team for more details.”

Leisure World provides a range of swimming lessons for teachers and lifeguards, from rookies to those seeking national pool lifeguard qualifications.
