DRIVERS are being warned to brace themselves for yet more delays and diversions as further roadworks are being carried out on the A120.

Motorists travelling from Colchester to Harwich and back have suffered months of disruptions due to a series of roadworks.

Works have been on-going at Hare Green for nearly two years for the installation of the new £3 million roundabout and associated works.

And there have been weeks of night time road closures between Horsley Cross and Ramsey for resurfacing and road improvement works.

Residents living in surrounding villages have also complained about heavy good lorries damaging the rural roads on the diversion route.

Now Highways England has announced it is carrying out more roadworks next week on the A120 between Hare Green and Horsely Cross.

It is undertaking works to improve the carriageway surface and to replace road studs and markings.

The work is planned to start on Monday and is programmed to take about seven nights.

The working times will be between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only.

Should there be a requirement to significantly re-programme the work, a further notification will be issued by Highways England.

A spokesman said: “In order to minimise the impact on communities and road users, we will only be diverting traffic on to local roads when absolutely necessary.

“Where we do need to close the A120 and divert traffic, we closely consult with the local authority to agree the most appropriate route and timings.”

He added: “Due to the nature of the works being carried out noise and light disturbance is unavoidable.

“We will, however, attempt to keep this to a minimum.

“Please accept our apologies in advance of any inconvenience that is caused whilst work is in progress.”
