RAIL bosses are calling on passengers to get on board with modern technology and use paperless tickets.
Greater Anglia is urging customers to use digital tickets having taken part in a week-long campaign which highlights the need to cut down on paper waste.
To mark Smart Week, which began on Monday, Greater Anglia has held a series of awareness events at stations, including in Witham.
The firm has been encouraging passengers to purchase advanced tickets online or via the Greater Anglia app.
Commercial and Customer Service Director Martin Moran said: “Buying a ticket digitally is more secure and durable than a paper ticket – which could get lost or spoiled - and saves time queuing at ticket machines so they are so much more convenient for passengers."
The move away from paper follows major upgrades as the rail industry aims to improve technology, install and upgrade ticket barriers at stations and promote smart tickets to passengers.
