A PENSIONER, has been airlifted to hospital, after reports of falling ill at the wheel.

Emergency services were called shortly before 3pm on Thursday, October 17, with reports a driver of a black Toyota had been taken ill at the wheel in Main Road, Dovercourt.

The car was in a crash with a blue Honda and a black Land Rover Freelander.

The Toyota driver, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We sent two ambulances, an ambulance officer and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"One person was taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital by air ambulance in a serious condition."
