A FIRE service is advising residents to never leave lit candles unattended as part of their Candle Fire Safety Week.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Services suggests putting burning candles out when leaving the room and making sure they are out completely at night.
Fitting smoke alarms and testing them monthly can buy residents valuable time to get out, stay out and call 999.
People can book a free home safety visit to fit a smoke alarm for free at crowd.in/Prr3pk.
