BUSINESSES and residents baked batches of buns for a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Ramsey War Memorial Hall and Parkeston Road Scout Group held coffee mornings for the charity last Friday.

Alex Howe, Macmillan fundraising manager for the east of England, said: “As a local resident it is fantastic to see the support our charity has in the town, and I am incredibly proud to see first-hand the work the Macmillan is doing to support people who need us.”

“Sadly, we are only there for 1 in 4 people, however our ambition is to be there for everyone.

“The generous support from residents will help Macmillan to one day achieve this.”

Hazel Williamson, who organised the coffee morning at Ramsey War Memorial Hall, is in remission after being treated for bowel cancer, and is looking forward to her one year cancer free milestone.

She said: “I have witnessed first-hand the amazing work of Macmillan and this is a charity that means a lot to me and my family.”

Glynis Zimmerman, event organiser at the Parkeston Road Scout Group, said: “Macmillan has supported some of our residents through really difficult times, so we felt it would be good to give something back to help others.”

Macmillan is setting up the very first fundraising committee in Harwich and Dovercourt, who will help to organise two flagship events every year to raise vital funds for people with cancer.
