A FRUSTRATED tutor has branded the works on a major road as being “chaotic” and “confusing”.

Margarite Rossini, of Main Road, Dovercour,t works in the evenings in Colchester as a private tutor.

The 70-year-old said it has become a “nightmare” getting back to Harwich after she finished her lessons as the A120 Wix bypass is closed on weekdays between 8pm and 6am for roadworks.

She said the diversions are really confusing, not well displayed and badly organised.

Mrs Rossini also said the redirected routes are so narrow that big lorries are blocking roads at times, and there is no place for them to reverse.

She said: “It is ridiculous and it’s making life a hell.

“The 8pm closure is way too early. People who work in Colchester would agree with me,

“I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way.”

Highways England announced works being carried out at the A120 Wix Bypass between Horsley Cross roundabout and Ramsey would start on Monday, September 23.

Maintenance works are being carried out, such as resurfacing, repairs and refreshment of road markings and studs.

Mrs Rossini said: “I am a private tutor and I have my classes during the evening.

“But I had to reschedule or postpone my lessons because of this issue.

“There are no diversion signs put in place, apart of having a yellow sign.

“It doesn’t make any sense.

“With no diversion sign, it is an absolute nightmare.”

Mrs Rossini has lodged a complaint about the diversion to Highways England.

She said: “They have sent me a letter with a map for the area, but no map for the diversion, so it was useless.”

The work is expected to be completed within five weeks.

A Highways England spokesman said: “The work being carried out along this section of the A120 is much needed maintenance to repair the concrete bays and essential resurfacing.

“We are working hard to keep disruption to a minimum while we carry out this important work.

“However, given the location, diversion routes are limited. Diversion routes have been agreed with Essex County Council and Essex Police and are clearly signed, and we are doing everything we can to encourage drivers to stick to them.

“We are grateful for people’s patience while we deliver this vital upgrade for the A120.”
