A CIRCUS owner’s dream finally became reality after shows were sold out at his first ever visit to his hometown.

Daniel Hammond, of Hillcrest Court, in Dovercourt, worked for four years to bring Circus Petite to Dovercourt.

The 30-year-old said last week’s shows in Dovercourt between September 18 and 22 were on high demand.

He said: “We sold out of the Wednesday’s 5pm show, as well as the Thursday’s 6pm show.

“Unfortunately, we had to send some people away.

“People really enjoyed it as they gave really nice feedback.

“As it was really receptive, we’re looking to come back next year as well.”

Audiences were impressed by a plethora or acts from uni-cycling, fire throwing and tight rope walking with a sword and dagger.

Last Thursday night (19 September) families from Home Start came along to the show.

Petite Circus has fundraised about £400 for the charity.

Daniel said: “About 30 people and ten families from Home Start came to see the show.

“It was successful and the charity was very pleased.”

Daniel also revisited his childhood primary school after leaving almost 20 years ago.

His visit to Two Village Primary School, in Ramsey, was on September 17.

For his visit, Daniel gave a brief history of the circus to students.

He also showed youngsters his juggling skills and encouraged children to try out plate spinning.

Daniel said: “It was great to be back.

“Some of the teachers who taught me were still at the school and it was lovely to see them again.

“It was nice to be back and see how everything has changed.

“It was a lot of fun.

“I really enjoyed my visit at The Two Village Primary School.”

The circus owners have visited quite a few schools last week.

Besides the Two Village Primary School, they have been to the Wix and Wrabness Primary School, the Harwich Community Primary School and to St Josephs Catholic Primary School.

They are currently setting up in Elmsett, then going to Littleport and finishing the tour in West Mersea between October 8 and 13.
