A LATE summer fete was organised to raise money for the maintenance of church in the heart of Harwich.

St Nicholas’ Church, in Church Street, organised the summertime event last Saturday, September 21 and it raised more than £500 which will go towards the upkeep of the church.

Janet Goodall, churchwarden, said: “Everybody had a wonderful time, we had fun.

“It was lovely as the Morris dancers performed and a dramatic group dressed up in 1940s and 1950s dresses.

“We are very thankful for all the volunteers behind the scenes and in front.

“It couldn’t have happened without their help.

“It was an amazing community event to bring the community together.

“It proved to be a very successful day.”

Activities during the day included a raffle and tombola, as well as all sorts of old-fashioned games.

They also had a plant stall, a cake stall, a Pick a lucky lolly stick, where if you picked a stick coloured on the bottom, you would win a prize.

About 300 people passed through the gates on the day to browse through a range of stalls.

Diane Butler and Janet Goodall organised the late summer fate together.
