CRUEL thieves stole flowerpots from an elderly man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Worried daughter Carol Conner has now issued a warning for residents to be vigilant after crooks targeted her father, Eddie Wilson’s home.

Mrs Conner said the thieves struck at Mr Wilson’s home in Queensway, Lawford.

They took three large flower pots, some plastic pots, a hanging basket and a big wooden pot.

She said her father, who is 88, was left confused as he suffers from Alzheimer’s.

Mrs Conner, 55, of Park Road, Ardleigh, said: “My dad is confused. He doesn’t really understand where the plants went.

“The incident will just leave him worried and having something like this happen really worries him.

“It is kind of sad that he doesn’t have anything to look after.”

Mrs Conner said the theft is believed to have happened last Saturday when Mr Wilson was out with his sister.

She warned other Lawford residents: “Don’t leave anything in the front and keep everything locked up.”

Mrs Conner added that they have ordered a security camera to keep an eye on their vulnerable dad, especially after one of his neighbour’s ladders was stolen, also in broad daylight.

She said: “It is sad to know that somebody targeted him, it is quite worrying.

“There are quite a lot of old and vulnerable people alone in that area.

“They couldn’t have taken the pots away by carrying them.

“They must have had a car or a van as they are too big and heavy to carry away.

“It is a strange thing and I don’t understand why anybody would do it.

“Replacing them costs about £100 but you wouldn’t sell them for that much.

“It is quite open where my dad lives and the neighbours didn’t see anything.

“It’s a strange thing, it could’ve happened to anyone.”

The remaining pots and flowers were taken into Mr Wilson’s back garden.

The incident has been reported to the police.

If anybody has any information, they can call the police on 101 or report it to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
