A SOCIETY is holding a range of events to mark its 50th anniversary.

The Harwich Society has purchased the opportunity to have its logo as the floral arrangement in the Mayor’s Garden.

To mark the milestone the society is having a celebratory dinner at the Waterfront on October 5 with a 1970s-themed menu to mark the occasion. In pride of place among the celebrations will be a civic service granted by Harwich Town Council which will be held in St Nicholas’ Church, in Harwich, on October 18 at 11.30am.

Colin Farnell, Harwich Society chairman, said: “We are very grateful to Harwich Town Council for granting the Harwich Society a civic service to mark its 50th anniversary and we are very much looking forward to it. It will be an opportunity for everyone to come together to celebrate all those who have been a part of the society over those 50 years along with all that has been achieved on behalf of this wonderful town.”

The civic service is to be attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Essex Jennifer Tolhurst and the Bishop of Colchester, the Right Reverend Roger Morris, and Mr Farnell hopes there will be a large congregation to help celebrate 50 years of supporting all that makes Harwich so special.

The service will be followed by a reception in the 1912 Centre.

Mr Farnell added: “Historic Harwich is always the star of the show and the Harwich Society is happy to act as the supporting cast.
