VISITORS heard tales about dragons, monsters, fish and coral reefs during a weekend of story telling in Harwich.

Ha'Penny Pier's Visitor Centre opened its doors during the bank holiday weekend for adults and children to experience listening to stories being read out loud.

It is the forth year the event has been held by Harwich Society volunteers.

The Harwich Society’s Ha’Penny Pier events co-ordinator, Lesley Elliot, said there were about 35 people visiting the centre each day during the weekend.

She said: "The Saturday was very good and people came knowing that we were going to be telling stories, and some had come back after hearing us in previous years.

"Numbers were a little smaller on Sunday, but it was probably because it was so hot.

"But people on the pier joined in with the story telling too.

"Parents really enjoyed it too, and we started off with one family and then ended up with half of the pier joining us."

Lesley said she is planning on running the story telling weekend again next August.

She added: "On Sunday, there were Shanty singers on the pier.

"That day was all about fish and coral reefs and we made fish collages with the children."
