A DRINK driver said he “made the wrong decision” to get behind the wheel of his Mercedes while he was more than double the legal drink driver limit.

Vlad Avram, 29, was stopped by police officers at around 4am in Harwich Road, Colchester.

Sharon Hall, prosecuting at Colchester Magistrates’ Court, said: “Officers were notified he had left the Three Wise Monkeys public house and, therefore, he was stopped as they suspected he was a drink driver.

“He was pulled over by the police.

“He identified himself to officers and complied with them.

“He has no previous convictions or cautions recorded against him.

“There was nothing detrimental about the manner of his driving, but the reading takes you into a starting point of an immediate community order.”

Avram, of Bromley Road, Ardleigh, said: “I am sorry to be here.

“I have been in a bad place and made the wrong decision and I am guilty.

“That is why I am here.”

Avram admitted drink driving.

Magistrates banned the offender from the roads for two years and ordered him to complete 90 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay £175 in court costs.
