A GROWING international business has announced the acquisition a new 26,000 sq ft building in Colchester which will serve as its UK headquarters.

The new warehouse and office premises, in Wyncolls Road, on the Severalls Industrial Estate, becomes VegTrug’s second premises in the town.

The firm’s existing building, also on Wyncolls Road, will be repurposed into an online distribution centre.

Over the past year the business has experienced significant growth both in the UK and Europe, with four new jobs being created.

VegTrug’s new premises have been custom fitted to suit its requirements and include a purpose built video and photography studio.

A product showroom has been created along with meeting rooms and a state-of-the-art conference centre.

VegTrug, which sells home growing solutions in the UK, US, Asia and Europe, purchased the new premises in preparation for its continued expansion, which could see further jobs created.

Colchester’s MP Will Quince visited the firm’s new facility to mark its official opening.

Company bosses explained to him how the firm had grown from its Colchester roots to now be a global player in the gardening market.

During the visit he was shown a range of new and innovative products which have been developed for the brand.

Joe Denham, chief executive officer of VegTrug Limited, said: “We were delighted to welcome Will and to be recognised for the work we have done over the last ten years in building the VegTrug brand and to have a representative who is on the side of local business listening to our views.”

VegTrug was founded in Colchester in 2009 by Mr Dedham and Paul Owen.

Its products offer growing solutions for those with limited space with easy to follow instructions, videos and information for the process.

It was one of the first firms in the industry to launch a free iPhone App for its customers.

In 2012 the VegTrug business was sold to Japanese firm Takasho but the founders have remained in the business since that time.

A spokesman said: “It has been an incredible story which has taken us from obscurity to a global platform and we are looking forward to continuing to grow the business through 2019 and beyond.

“We started as a one-product company and we now have hundreds of products on offer. We are determined to keep the highest standards of quality and service and will continue to invest in our business as we grow.”
