POLICE were called after a thief stole hundreds of pounds worth of items from a shop.
Officers rushed to Tesco Store, in High Street, Manningtree following reports of a theft on Thursday, August 15.
A man in his 20s was reported to have placed items worth hundreds of pounds into a large black back and left the store without paying.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "He dropped the bag when he saw our officers in Stour Street at about 4.10pm, and ran off climbing over a garden fence.
"Anyone with information is asked to call on Harwich Local Police Team on 101 quoting crime reference Crime Ref 42/116006/19 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Tesco PLC declined to comment while inquiries are ongoing.
