A DAY care centre welcomed guests to its new garden for an afternoon of tea and scones.

The open garden event at Knightswood Day Care Centre, in Asheldham, saw dozens of visitors visit the new garden, which was designed by professionals.

The project was filmed for Channel 5’s Great Gardening Challenge.

A centre spokesman said: “We were so pleased to see so many people supporting us and enjoying cream teas in the garden.

“We were also so thankful for all the donations, which came to £200.

“We’ve received some really nice comments.

“There was one woman from Maldon who saw our garden on television and was happy to come down to the open day as she wanted ideas for her garden.”

The garden has been named ‘Jardin de John’ after John Fisher, of Fisher Farms, who donated the land and has supported the centre.

Ken’s wife Shirley opened the garden alongside John Fisher as she has agreed to maintain the garden so all can enjoy it in the future.
