PERFORMERS took to the stage for a summer party in Clacton Town Centre.

Organisers said the event was an enjoyable one despite forecast bad weather on Saturday keeping some away.

It is the fifth year running that the Clacton Town Partnership has run the Summer on the Square event.

It included live music from local talents, stalls to explore and a bubble machine to entertain the youngsters.

Graham Webb, chairman of Clacton Town Partnership, said: “We had a problem to start with as the town square was flooded after the rain due to the council blocking up the drains where the fountain was.

“It took one and a half hours to sweep water away from the square before the day could start.

“We were a bit disappointed that a number of performers didn’t turn up

“I think they saw weather forecast and stayed away, but we never make a decision until the day as its often been wrong.”

The partnership hopes to hold one event a month on the square throughout the summer to give the town a boost.

The next event is already set to go ahead next month, coinciding with the Clacton Airshow’s second day on Friday, August 23.
