A SUPERMARKET in Manningtree is applying to build an extension with a cafe for the fourth time in more than a decade after allowing each permission to lapse.

The plans for the Co-op Fiveways store in Riverside Avenue East come after the same application was given the green light in 2007, 2012 and 2016.

The latest consent lapsed earlier this month and the East of England Co-Operative Society want to renew it.

The design report sent to the council said: "At ground floor level, the extension will provide a larger retail area and a café.

"The existing post office will be relocated to the rear of the store.

"At the first floor level, the scheme provides additional seating for the café, including an attractive terrace area with views across the river on the building’s east elevation.

"On the west elevation, the first floor extension will contain a plant room and services."

The plans would also see a new car park layout and recycling area, new disabled and parent/child parking near the store entrance, a kiosk area, cash office and ATM.

Tendring Council has final say on the plans.
