VILLAGERS collected more than 20 bags of rubbish around their streets and footpaths.

Mistley Parish Council organised it's summer litter pick on Saturday.

Chairman Charlotte Howell said: "We dot hem three times a year and borrow the litter pickers from Tendring Council.

"They were delivered to Mistley Norman Primary School on Friday and the schoolchildren did their playground that day.

"Then on Saturday we did the village.

"It was really well supported by local residents with about 30 people turned out.

"We picked up about 20 to 25 bags of rubbish and the Thorn made muffins and brownies for afterwards, and there was tea and coffee in the village hall."

Charlotte said general litter was found in bushes, hedgerows and under trees.

She added: "I don't think we have a litter problem, when I drive around the night before I don't think there is much rubbish but they find it.

"It's a really good community event."
