A SAILING club is reaching out to the public to come to their annual open day.

Stone Sailing Club in Tinnocks Lane, St Lawrence Bay will be hosting their event on Saturday, July 6.

Registration opens at 1pm and sailing and rowing will be from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

The club will also be celebrating a milestone this year.

A spokesman said: “Stone Sailing Club is one of the village institutions and is celebrating 70 years of operation during 2019.

“There was practically nothing here when the club started life.

“A handful of cottages and holiday homes, maybe a caravan or two – that was the village as it came out of its wartime era.

“Of course, the club has changed a bit over the years as the clubhouse has been extended outwards and upwards.

“It is the sailing opportunities that are at the heart for the club.

“The Blackwater is nice and wide here and can be sailed at all states of the tide.”

Visitors can try keel boats, cruisers and dinghies and after sailing, there will be a barbeque on the lawn.

Visitors are advised to wear suitable clothes and shoes for the water although waterproof gear may be borrowed.
