A CHARITY set up by doctors and paramedics is looking for a new base in Essex.

Basics Essex Accident Rescue Service (Bears) provides voluntary pre-hospital care and the charity has been supporting the ambulance service for more than 45 years.

Now the charity wants to expand by looking for an office in central Essex to house its response car, store equipment and give a space for doctors to train.

Chairman of Bears, Paul Gates said: “Over the past 12 months Bears has set out plans to expand the service it provides to train and equip doctors and paramedics to provide advanced pre-hospital care.

“We currently have all our assets split over a number of sites across Essex, making us inefficient.

“We are hoping to be able to share a free or very low-cost office space including one car parking space.

“By having our own office base we can support our volunteer response as well as enhance our fundraising efforts to help save lives.

“Our doctors and paramedics respond voluntarily in their own cars or in our dedicated response car to provide support to patients across Essex who need additional care like advanced pain relief, sedation or emergency surgical interventions.”

The team has been named as a beneficiary by Maldon District Council for this year’s fundraising at the Crouch Valley Festival of Food & Drink in July at Riverside Park.

The charity is also working hard on organising a 2019 Ball at the Five Lakes Resort in Tolleshunt Knights in September.
