Trying to find something to treat dads both young and old. Here are a few suggestions;

1. Colchester Medieval Festival and Oyster Fayre Market

Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm. £8, £4 children, £16 family.

A real family treat with Medieval stalls selling all sorts of wonderful historic crafts, entertainers from the period plus story tellers and music wafting from every corner. And Dad’s don’t forget the food court with Medieval and modern delicacies plus The Pikestaff Inn selling real ale, mead and wines.

2. The Golden Age of Falconry, Layer Marney Tower

Sunday 11am, flying displays at 12.30pm and 2.30pm. £9 adults, £5 children. 01206 330784.

The Tower’s 2019 Fathers’ Day experience sees Eden Falconry bringing falcons back to the Tudor Gatehouse including a variety of birds such as a Barn Owl, European Eagle Owl, Long Eared Owl, Kestrel, and Harris Hawk. There’s also Zephyr, the Bald Eagle who is the proud mascot of the Army Cadet Corps.

3. The Farm Mud Run, Foxes Farm, Green Lane, Aldham

Sunday 9am to 5pm. £10 to £15. 07720 888053.

A multi-lap obstacle course where it appears the main objective is to get as mucky as possible. Passing through fields with lots of farm obstacles, bogs, straw bales, and plenty of mud, there are four two-hour sessions including one you can do with your dog.

4. Father’s Day Steam Up, East Anglian Railway Museum, Chappel

Sunday 10am to 4.30pm. £10 adults, children 5. Under 4s and Dads free. 01206 242524.

Dads go free as steam trains run all day long for rides plus there’s a chance to explore the museum, vintage carriages and signal boxes.

5. Maggi Hambling, Quay Theatre, Sudbury

Sunday 6.30pm. £10. 01787 374745.

Finally something a little bit different for Father’s Day as internationally acclaimed Suffolk artist Maggi Hambling will be talking about the visionary paintings of her late father Harry Hambling. The paintings form the basis of her latest book: A Suffolk Eye, which was co-written with biographer Jamie Gilham.
