HUNDREDS of pounds worth of alcohol was stolen and a staff member was assaulted during a raid at a cinema. 

Police are appealing for information after the alcohol was stolen from the Curzon cinema in Queen Street. 

It happened on April 3, between 11pm and 11.15pm. 

A man, described as being white, aged between 30 and 40 years old and with a full beard, assaulted a staff member when he was challenged, causing injuries to the staff member's face and arms.

The man, who was wearing a black hat, a three-quarter length olive green jacket, a white t-shirt and blue jeans, left the cinema.

A police spokesman said: "If anyone present at the cinema, or in the area of Queen Street at the time, has further information about this incident, we would urge you to contact Colchester CID on 101.

"The crime reference number to quote is 42/52466/19.
