A ROBBER who targeted four people in an early morning knifepoint spree is facing a lengthy spell in jail.

Danny Glass admitted two counts of robbery, another two counts of attempted robbery and possession of two bladed articles at Ipswich Crown Court.

The 30-year-old was arrested after a series of robberies in the Hythe and New Town areas of Colchester between 5am and 7am on a Saturday morning last month.

Glass first robbed a woman in Haven Road and made off with a her handbag containing a passport, banks cards and a phone.

In a second raid in the same area he took a man’s cash, phone and bank card.

Glass also tried to rob a man in an alleyway off Kendall Road before pushing him to floor.

He then physically jumped on a man in James Street in an unsuccessful attempt to get his belongings.

During the short hearing, he spoke only to confirm his guilty pleas to each of the six charges and to tell the court his name and address.

Sentencing was adjourned until next month so a probation report can be prepared.

Stephen Mather, prosecuting, said he would argue the robberies were in the most serious category and would have a starting point of eight years in prison, before the defendant’s lengthy list of offending history was considered.

He also asked for time to source victim impact statements so the court could hear how it had affected those Glass targeted.

Judge David Pugh agreed to adjourn the sentencing.

Addressing Glass, of Haven Road, Colchester, he said: “Following your pleas of guilty I am going to put your case in a warned list for the week commencing April 8.

“I also order a probation report and part of that will address the issue of whether you should be treated as a dangerous offender.

“I shall remand you in custody until that hearing.”

Offenders are classed as dangerous if a judge believes they pose a serious risk of harm to the wider public, and can then be made subject to tougher sentences.
