VOLUNTEER police officers arrested a gang of teenagers after a series of knifepoint robberies.

Special Sgt Kellie Draper and SC Mike Fraser were giving up their time when Essex Police received reports of three incidents in Bridge Street, Witham on Saturday.

On two occasions the victims had been threatened with a knife.

The volunteers searched the area and arrested four teenagers from Braintree - aged 15, 16 and two 17-year-olds, on suspicion of robbery.

The group remain in custody.

Special constables have the same policing powers and uniform as paid police officers. They are part of a team of 40 Special Constables that regularly volunteer their time in the Braintree and Uttlesford district to help keep you safe.
