A BMW was left smashed with its airbags deployed after a crash at a busy junction.

A mangled red BMW was left outside the BP garage at the junction of Mersea Road and Abbot’s Road in Colchester yesterday.

A passing resident said: “It looked like a bad smash.

“People are coming out of the petrol station and drivers coming from Mersea Road cannot see them.

“I have raised it with councillors before as I have seen a number of crashes there.

“It is so dangerous.”

Berechurch borough and county councillor Dave Harris (Lab) said he contacted Essex County Council to see if the junction for cars leaving the petrol station can be made a left-turn only in a bid to improve safety and reduce accidents.

He said: “There have been so many crashes, they are all low impact so they don’t appear in the county council’s stats.”
