A VAN has knocked down traffic lights at a busy junction in Colchester.

The incident happened at about 10.40am this morning.

A van was seen mounting the central island and knocking the lights into the middle of the road.

It has caused the rest of the lights around the junction to be wiped out.

Essex Highways are on the scene warning drivers to be careful.

Police have just left the scene.

UPDATE 2.15PM - A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “Works are planned to replace the damaged traffic light at this location this evening.

"Traffic Management, a temporary crossing and temporary traffic lights will be put in place prior to works commencing at 7pm.

"Work is expected to be completed by 11.30pm assuming no complications arise.”
