A CHRISTMAS carol concert is taking place in Maldon this weekend.

The popular concert at All Saints’ Church, in High Street, is being held on Saturday.

The event is hosted by Maldon Choral Society who will be directed by Gillian Ward Russell, with organ accompaniment provided by Emma Griffin-Olukoya.

A spokesman said: “It is an annual tradition for Maldon Choral to perform a Christmas carol concert in the town.

“One member, Sue Gardiner, who joined the choir in 1963 says there has been one every year in her time, so that’s more than 50 years.

“The members of Maldon Choral are delighted to be returning to All Saints’ Church in the town after the marvellous response from a packed audience there for the Last Afternoon of the Proms concert last month.

“The forthcoming concert includes favourite traditional carols for the audience alongside more unusual seasonal songs from the choir.

“The singers are looking forward to joining the children of Maldon’s St Francis Catholic Primary School Choir in a version of ‘Christmas Lullaby’ arranged by Gillian Ward Russell.

“Afterwards, you are very welcome to stay for a drink, or perhaps a glass of mulled wine, and a mince pie and see if you have bought the winning ticket for our Christmas raffle.”

It will also feature carols where the audience joins in with singing.

Tickets cost £7 (children free).

They are available from Maldon Tourist Information Centre in Wenlock Way and on the door.

Residents interested in joining the choir can can also go along to rehearsals on Thursdays at All Saints’ Primary School, in Highlands Drive, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
