A HIGH street restaurant has celebrated its first year of business.

The Sark Meze Grill in High Street first opened its doors last year to give visitors a taste of the Mediterranean with its selection of Turkish dishes.

An anniversary dinner was held and guests included town mayor Jeanette Stilts who opened the restaurant a year ago.

A spokesman said: “Sark Meze Grill held a party to be remembered to thank its patrons for their support over the past 12 months.

“It’s looking forward to the next 12 months with the excitement and enthusiasm that has helped them to succeed during their first year of trading.

“The highlight of the evening was traditional dancing with belly dancers inviting the audience to join in with the celebration with music of Turkish origin.

“The atmosphere of the evening was more reminiscent of a celebration in Istanbul rather than Maldon.”

Owner Salman Barli and his family were presented with a birthday cake by the dancers and a speech was made to thank everyone.

The restaurant also celebrated by offering discounts on meals throughout November.
