CLACTON MP Giles Watling was left delighted and inspired after visiting a charity working with people who have mental health issues.

Mr Watling visited Summit services, in Orwell Road, where he met chief executive Avril O’Sullivan and staff and volunteers to discuss the work they carry out supporting service users.

The charity works mainly with people with learning disabilities or mental health issues and delivers a variety of projects empowering vulnerable adults to improve their quality of life.

He also spoke to one volunteer, Darren, who told of his experiences with depression and suicidal thoughts and overcoming them thanks to the charity.

Mr Watling said: “I was delighted to meet Avril and her team. We had a really inspiring chat.

“It is clear to see that the services offered by Summit literally transform lives and those that work and volunteer provide invaluable support to service users.

“I would also like to thank Darren for sharing his personal experience with me, he is a testament to the great work offered by the team and I was so pleased to learn of the positive end to his story.

“I would encourage residents who feel they would benefit from the service to get in touch with the team.”

Charity head Avril O’Sullivan added: “We have been providing services for vulnerable adults since 1976 and were previously known as Tendring Mental Health Support. Our recent lottery funded project means we are able to help, and support more local people begin their own journey towards recovery.”
