CROOKS have smashed their way into a series of homes and businesses.

It is understood the spate of break-ins across Frinton and Walton included Frinton Golf Club, Emma’s Kitchen Cafe in Fourth Avenue, as well as the Royal British Legion in Vicarage Lane, Walton.

Police believe the same group may be responsible for the raids.

A spokesman for the Royal British Legion said: “We were shocked they would target us, although any business is a target for these people.

“It happened at about 2am on Sunday – they broke into the office on the first floor of the building.

“There was glass everywhere and they damaged a few things. We feel that we have got good security here.

“Quite a few businesses have been targeted across the town.”

It is understood the burglars broke into Frinton Golf Club, in Esplanade, in the early hours on Friday before targeting a safe and tills.

Sgt Pete Gerard, of Walton Police, said: “We are mindful that there was a series of crimes in the Frinton and Walton area.

“There is some evidence to suggest it was the same offenders and the crimes are linked.

“Offences have taken place across the Frinton Walton and Great Holland areas.

“The offence timings are in the early hours between 1am and 4am.

“The crimes involved houses and some commercial premises being forced entry to and some vehicles having windows smashed to gain access.

“We have responded by tasking extra resources to the area.

“The investigations go forward using a variety of investigative techniques and using all assets in the area.

“We do ask residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.”

Sgt Gerard encouraged residents in the area to visit the force’s website for advice on how to guard themselves against crime, including burglaries
