A FIRE in a barn started accidentally an investigation has ruled.

Firefighters were called to Garlands Farm in Tollesbury Road at 5.30pm last Thursday.

They spent an hour tackling the blaze.

A section of the corrugated roofing has been damaged, leaving an eight-foot hole in the roof.

There was also some internal damage, but the structure remains intact.

A resident who lives near the barn described the fire billowing out the top of the roof.

He said: “We were here when it happened. There was smoke shooting out of the vents.

“Three fire engines came. The damage looks quite bad inside.

“We weren’t worried about our house. The fire was under control pretty quickly.”

The owners of the barn declined to comment.
