A teenager with a “bright future” who died in Tollesbury took her own life, an inquest ruled.

Danielle Young, 19, was reported missing from her home in the village on April 16, and was found later the same day on the bank of an estuary leading to the River Blackwater.

Despite efforts from her family, the police and ambulance services, Danielle sadly died at the scene.

The inquest into her death at Essex Coroner’s Court took place on Wednesday.

Coroner’s officer Lindsey King said: “On April 16 Danielle Ann Young was reported missing by her family, as she had not been seen since the previous evening.

"She was found by her family on the bank of the estuary, 30 meters from the sea wall.

“Ambulance and emergency crews attended the scene but sadly she passed away at the scene.

“A post mortem examination was carried out which found the cause of death to be drowning. It also showed high dosages of alcohol and drugs including paracetamol and codeine.”

Mark Tyler, the investigating officer for the case from Essex Police, confirmed to the court his investigation found no suspicious circumstances.

Caroline Beasley-Murray, senior coroner, told the court Danielle had left cards for her family before her death.

Danielle’s mother said: “I’d like to thank the police, the response was quite phenomenal. It wasn’t in time sadly, but there was nothing that was not put out or done that could have been.

“The post mortem came back with high toxicity of alcohol, which was a sign of her desperation, as she had taken tablets she never took.”

Addressing Danielle’s family, Mrs Beasley-Murray said: “I have come to the very sad conclusion that Danielle, who was highly intelligent, intended to take her own life, she took an action knowing that it would result in her death.

“I will record a conclusion that Danielle Young killed herself. What a tragedy for all of you, a young lady with a bright, bright future. I again express condolences to you.”
