1. Saltmarsh75

Saturday and Sunday

The annual two-day race will be returning this weekend. The ultra-marathon is a 75-mile race along the Saltmarsh coast. Participants can walk, jog or run and there are options for relays and partners. Starting on the Saturday in South Woodham Ferrers, the trail follows the River Crouch until it meets the North Sea, before going into the Dengie Marshes to Bradwell-on-Sea at the mouth of the Blackwater Estuary. Sunday’s remaining 37 miles run through Maldon, Goldhanger and Tollesbury, finishing at the hamlet of Salcott-cum-Virley. 2. Essex Poetry Festival, Burnham Library

Sunday 7pm to 8.30pm

An evening of live poetry is coming to Burnham as part of National Poetry Day. The Essex Poetry Festival will be visiting Burnham Library in Station Road on Sunday. Poet Adrian Green will perform his work and talk about his inspirations in this stimulating event. His poems and reviews have appeared in several magazines and anthologies in England and Romania as well as two pamphlet collections and a full-length collection from The Littoral Press called Chorus and Coda. 3. Charity barn dance, Woodham Walter

Saturday 7.30pm to 11pm

A charity barn dance will take place in Woodham Walter at the weekend. The Woodham Walter village hall in Rectory Road will be hosting the event on Saturday to raise money for the Helen Rollason Cancer charity. There will also be live music by the Maldon Group Metric Foot Band. The event is from 7.30pm to 11pm. Tickets are £7 and visitors are allowed to bring their own food and drink. 4. Community litter pick, Maldon

Sunday 10am

Members of the public can lend a hand at tidying up Maldon this weekend. A community litter pick organised by the Maldon in Bloom team will happen this Sunday. The event is from 10am to midday and will start at the West Maldon Community Centre in Sunbury Way. Entry is free and volunteers are asked to wear appropriate clothing and gloves. 5. Autumn Boat Show, Tollesbury

Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm

A boat show will be on in Tollesbury this weekend. The Tollesbury Autumn Boat Show at The Yacht Harbour in Tollesbury will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. 6. Dale Storr at the Blue Boar Hotel, Maldon

Friday 8pm

A blues music virtuoso will be performing in Maldon. New Orleans blues pianist Dale Storr will be bringing his new show to the Blue Boar Hotel in Silver Street next Friday. The Sheffield-based musician performed previously at the Blues at the Barns festival in Creeksea. Mr Storr is a seven-times British Blues Award nominee and winner of the 2015 Buxton Fringe Festival Best Musical Performance Award. The show is in the Long Room and doors open at 8pm.
