The Maldon and Burnham Standard’s Café of the Year has been announced.

St Peter’s Café in Spital Road, Maldon has been named the best café for 2018, according to readers of the Standard.

In total, three cafes across the Maldon area were nominated by the public before readers were asked to cast a final vote on the district’s best.

St Peter’s Café, located in St Peter’s Hospital, offers meals and drinks as well as hosting social events such as live music.

The café has already won titles from the Livewell awards and Pride of Maldon awards.

Manager Julie Taylor took over the café more than three years ago.

She said: "All the food we make here is homemade.

“Every day we have at least 50 customers and if people can’t come in, we get the food to their house.

“Most of my staff are volunteers and they love working here.

“There’s so much to see and do here that you just need to see for yourself, it’s so different.

“We have never been so happy.

“To win this award is unbelievable.

“I want to go from strength to strength and win more awards.”

This year, the cafe will be supporting a family in the area in order to provide gifts and accessories for Christmas.

Other cafes which made the shortlist were the Continental Coffee Company and the Vintage Rose Tearoom.
