A TV programme showcasing the best products made in Britain will feature Maldon's world famous sea salt.

ITV4 show Made in Britain visited Maldon Salt's base for an episode which will be broadcast on Tuesday.

The show, which was commissioned following the Brexit vote to celebrate manufacturers and producers who are flying the flag for Britain, looks back at the history of the company.

Maldon Sea Salt is beloved by people across the globe and has fans in Delia Smith, Jamie Oliver and even the Queen.

During the show managing director Steven Osborne speaks about how the family business achieved success.

Ten million boxes of the famous salt is produced and exported to 60 countries each year and the firm provides 45 local jobs.

The show tells the story of how salt was once a currency and where the sayings ‘worth your salt and salt of the earth’ come from.

The entirely natural salt is harvested by boiling seawater from the River Blackwater at the highest tides - after it has absorbed dried salt deposits on marsh plants.

But the show does not give away any secrets of the process - including the temperature which has remained a secret since 1922.

Mr Osborne said: “The techniques have been down through the generations from family member to family member.”

The company will be among a number of firms included in the ten-part series including Wagon Wheels, Brompton Bikes, Bremont Watches and Tyrrells Crisps.

Paul Stead, executive producer of Made In Britain, said: “With so much debate about Brexit and what happens afterwards, we wanted to make a celebration series focussing on manufacturers and producers that are flying the flag and being the very best at what they do and Maldon Sea Salt is a perfect example of that and we are proud to include them in this landmark series.”

Made in Britain is shown at 8pm on Tuesdays on ITV4. The show featuring Maldon Salt will also be available on demand.
