Burnham's bonniest tots have been crowned during a traditional baby show.

The show was one of many pre carnival events which take place before the main procession on Saturday.

Last Wednesday saw Burnham’s babies use their cute looks to do battle in the quest to be crowned the town’s bonniest baby boy and baby girl.

Babies from across the Dengie Hundred area were entered into the show which was held in Carnival Hall, Arcadia Road.

Entrants had to be a minimum of six months old and could be no older than two.

The judges had the difficult task of selecting winners from four separate categories who were then shortlisted for the overall prizes.

In the end, it was Zachary Elgee who was crowned the bonniest boy in Burnham.

Hannah Beharrell claimed the bonniest girl prize.

The two winners were crowned and awarded their trophies during a short ceremony..

The chairman of the Burnham Carnival, Caroline Sarychkin, was present during the show.

She said: “We had lots and lots of babies there on the day and they were all totally adorable.

“We had many more babies than we usually do and they all come from the Dengie area.

“I was really glad I wasn’t a judge because I couldn’t have chosen between them all.”

Earlier in the week there was a quiz night hosted by Peter Layzell and a Minuet to Win it event hosted by Becca Tatlow and Kelvin Coles.

Caroline added: “We had a great evening with the quiz night and Peter did a really great job - it was a really fun evening.

“The Minute to Win It was an evening of silly games and there were eight or nine teams doing ridiculous activities like picking up a cotton wool ball on their nose and crushing a balloon between two people.

“It has all been really great fun.”
