Looking for something to do this weekend? Whether it’s something to keep the kids entertained or a way to spend a leisurely afternoon we have got you covered.

Here is our pick of some of the best events taking place this Saturday and Sunday.

1. Burnham Carnival. Saturday, September 29

One of the biggest events in Burnham’s calendar will be returning for its 110th year.

Burnham Carnival will take place all day and night on Saturday, September 29 in High Street.

On carnival day the fun starts at 10am with a performance from the Ormiston Rivers choir.

Throughout the day, there will be Disney princesses, the 999 competition, Blue Falcons gymnastic display team, traditional Punch and Judy shows and stalls.

Live music will be provided by Rayleigh Brass, singer Loula, and the Craic Heads.

The Grand Illuminated Procession starts from the clock tower at 7.30pm.

Station Road will be closed by the Co-op from 5pm to allow the procession to take place safely, reopening by 10pm once the crowds have dispersed.

Carnival chairman Caroline Sarychkin said: “This year is the 110th carnival so we have lots of old favourites and plenty of new ones.

“All the entertainment is free, it’s a lovely family day out and the nighttime procession is always magical.

“We hope everyone will come along and enjoy themselves and help us raise money for local charities and good causes.”

Parking will be available at Ormiston Rivers Academy and St Mary’s Church.

2. Proms at Stow Maries Aerodrome. Saturday, September 29

The Dunmow Wind Band will present their show Music under the Stars performed from inside a working hangar.

The band was formed in 2013 by military musician Andy King.

Aerodrome CEO Ian Flint said: “This event has been in the planning for quite some time, so it is great to see it come to fruition.

“I have no doubt The Dunmow Wind Band will light up our hangar and deliver a night to remember as we continue to celebrate 100 years of the RAF.”

Tickets for the event are £25 for adult and £12 for children under 16.

The price includes a glass of Pimms and a traditional Essex hog roast. Doors open at 4.30pm for a 5pm start.

A music project to celebrate remembrance of the First World War will be performed in Heybridge.
