AN Essex Mayor has organised a charity walk from one town to another.

Witham Mayor Tom Pleasance is organising an eight-mile sponsored walk from Maldon to Witham on Saturday, October 6to raise money for The J’s Hospice and the 295 Squadron ATC Mini Bus Fund.

These are the mayor’s chosen charities for his 2018-2019 civic year.

Walkers will meet outside the Moot Hall in Maldon High Street at 9.45am for a 10am start.

The route goes along a scenic path, following the route of the old railway tracks where it finishes at Witham Town Hall.

Councillor Pleasance said: “It is an easy and enjoyable walk along the Blackwater trail.

“I’ve done it before and it’s really good – lovely and peaceful.

“I hope lots of people join us as it’s a nice way to raise money for two great causes.”

Marianna Alexandrou, Community Fundraiser at The J’s Hospice, said: “We are very grateful to Councillor Tom Pleasance for making The J’s one of his charities of the year and organising some great fundraising events.

“There is some lovely countryside between Maldon and Witham so this walk is the perfect opportunity to enjoy scenery that you miss out on when you travel by car.

“It costs nothing to take part, but participants are asked to collect sponsor money or donations from family and friends.”

The J’s Hospice cares for young adults with life-limiting conditions and their families across Essex.
