MORE than 100 paintings went on display at a club’s annual exhibition.

Dovercourt Art Club celebrated its 51st exhibition at The Waterfront, in Lower Marine Parade, over the weekend.

In total 138 pieces of art by 36 artists was showcased to visitors.

Artworks were created using oil, acrylic, and water colour paint and depicted some of the area’s best known scenes alongside some from further afield.

Chairman Rodney Byrd said: “We had a variety of paintings from still life to local scenes, animals to flowers.

“Last year was our 50th anniversary and we had a successful year.

“It was a little bit quieter on the Friday night and the Saturday and Sunday were well attended by visitors. We had been doing all sorts of advertising.

“It was very well attended and went quite smoothly.”

Mr Byrd said he hoped the event had inspired some budding artists to take up their paint brushes.

He added: “Myself and two other artists were painting within the design area and we did get quite a few people who were interested.”

The exhibition also included a best picture in show competition voted for by the public with 267 votes cast.

This was won by John Sallows, second went to Jackie Whitnall and third to Mr Byrd.
