A NEW coffee shop with more than 50 flavours of coffee has opened on Maldon High Street.

Martin and Sarah Buckley have opened Maldon Coffee Company this month, replacing Chameleon Jewellery, and is unlike your usual high street café.

The shop has more than 50 varieties of coffee beans, teas, hot chocolates, milkshakes and smoothies for customers to try, with new flavours planned to be introduced every two weeks.

Flavours on offer presently include whiskey and chocolate, Tennesse whiskey, butterscotch, banana, raspberry, Colombian grown and Kenyan grown.

Mr and Mrs Buckley, who live in Langford, have previous experience in the coffee trade from working in Chelmsford, and opened their new store on August 2.

Mr Buckley, 48, said: “We opened up on Thursday so we could make the most of the carnival coming down the high street on Saturday.

“We spent a good few months getting it up and running and it was good to get it open.

“It was extremely busy and we gave out a lot of free samples, and we’ve had a regular stream of people coming in so far.

“We wanted to give residents a huge choice of what they wanted, everyone can select their normal latte, cappuccino, flat white and just pick which flavour they want from our selection.

“We have tables and chairs but people can come and go to take out their drinks, plus they can buy bags of the beans and tea.”

The couple and their 16-year-old son are operating the shop from 7am to 6pm.

An official opened ceremony is planned for the end of August with Maldon mayor Jeanette Stilts set to attend.

Mr Buckley added: “We’ve had good feedback so far, and people seem really interested in the flavours.

“We’re not going to be able to compete with businesses like Greggs, but we hope coffee lovers can enjoy the different flavours we’re getting in.”
