A MUM who has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour is on a mission to raise thousands of pounds to cover medical costs and help make memories with her young family.

Sophie George, 26, lives in Weeley Heath with 20-month-year-old daughter Marcie and fiancé Jay, 28.

She was diagnosed with glioblastoma in February this year which is a stage four cancer of the brain.

“I started to get a really bad headache which wouldn’t go no matter what I took,” she said.

“It was a constant headache which would even wake me up in the night.

“After three weeks of pain I decided to go to A&E in Colchester and ask if I could have a scan.

“I was told I didn’t need a scan and to take some more Co-codamol.

“The following day my partner’s mum took me to the optician as she said it could be caused by needing glasses. But the pain just became so unbearable I was being sick and I couldn’t talk.”

Sophie was then taken to Clacton Primary Care where she was sent straight to A&E again.

On February 18 a scan revealed a 4.5cm tumour in Sophie’s brain.

Medical professionals have told Sophie she has a prognosis of 18 months.

“Seeing everyone around me crumble to pieces was heartbreaking,” she said. “All I could think is that I may not get to see my baby girl grow up, her first day of school or her getting married.

Sophie was given anti-seizure medication to reduce the headache pain and was taken to Queen’s Hospital in Romford to have the tumour removed.

“I am now on stronger chemo tablets for the next six months and I am having a scan in August to see if there has been any regrowth or progression,” she said.

Sophie’s family and friends have rallied round and raised more than £7,000 but hope to raise £5,000 more so she can make memories with Marcie and pay for any clinical trials or private treatment she needs.

The cash will also go towards Sophie and Jay’s dream wedding in September.

“I am really overwhelmed by all the support I have had locally and from people I’ve never met,” Sophie added. “I am determined to beat the odds and fight it for my family and my daughter.”
