A RETIRED college lecturer from Clacton has come out on top at a county-wide writing competition for the second time.
Frances Boardman, of Hastings Avenue, has been named the overall winner of the 2018 Age UK Essex Prose and Poetry Writing competition.
Of the categories in the competition covering both prose and poetry Frances' poem 'Interwoven' - about the beach re-generation in Clacton-on-Sea in 1995 - topped the awards.
Frances was presented the award by Lord Petre, President of Age UK Essex, at a special prize-winners' afternoon at Ingatestone Hall on June 7.
Mrs Boardman has been writing fiction stories and poetry since she attended a creative writing course at Clacton's adult education centre back in 2008.
It's the second time she's scooped Age UK Essex's top prize, also winning in 2013 for her poem 'Good Golly, Miss Molly' about the Swinging Sixties.
