HUNDREDS of budding sportsmen were able to take part in a fun-filled open day.

More than 300 people piled into the Clacton Leisure Centre on Saturday get stuck into badminton, basketball, tennis and walking netball.

There was also an opportunity to get involved in dance and gym classes and fun-fill antics in the pool.

Council leisure boss Mick Skeels aid it was brilliant to hear so many people had come along.

"Our leisure centre open days are a great way for people to try out a number of different activities, and also have a taster of what their local centre can offer them,” he said.

"By encouraging youngsters from an early age to get to know their leisure centre, even if it is just having their face painted to begin with, we can hope they will take up physical activity later in life to help them stay fit and healthy."

Another fun-day will be going ahead this weekend in Walton leisure centre this Saturday from 10am until 3pm.

There will be free face painting, first aid demonstrations, gym challenges, pool fun and a tombola and raffle will all feature at the event.
