Pilots braved the turbulent weather to take part in the very first All England Outdoor Paper Aeroplane Championships.
The event was hosted at The White Hart Inn, off Halstead High Street, and drew in large numbers of people from across north Essex.
Competitors were tasked with creating their own paper aeroplane before trying to throw it the furthest in order to be crowned the winner.
A total of 71 people took part as families and friends tried to claim bragging rights.
The overall winner was pub regular Colin Wood, whose plane travelled a total of 14 metres.
Competition founder Charles Townsend said: “It could have been better weather but there was a reasonable number of people who took part.
“There was a lot of interest and we had people coming from as far Mersea and Harwich.
“We will certainly be running it again next year so we’ll be hoping it doesn’t rain then as well.”
