COUNCIL bosses say new crime-busting CCTV has succeeded in reducing anti-social behaviour in Halstead.
The Butler Road car park had been a source of frustration for some, with the area being subjected to constant noise, disruption and litter, especially at night.
Residents complained to the town council about the issue last year, with councillors agreeing to invest in CCTV at the car park.
The installation was set back until the summer after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The town council now says the level of anti-social behaviour in the area has dropped after CCTV was put in.
A spokesman said: “In 2019, the town council decided to invest in CCTV in Butler Road car park.
“This decision was taken largely because of constant noise, disruption and litter – particularly at night – which led to many complaints from local residents, and caused a lot of mess to clear up for the council.
"The installation was delayed by the lockdown, but the equipment was eventually installed in June 2020.
"The footage can be viewed at the Empire Theatre and at Halstead Town Council offices.
"So far, the deterrent appears to be serving its purpose, and little disruptive behaviour has been noted from young adults.”
