Health bosses and councillors are backing a new surgery, but it will still need to go on a waiting list of priorities.
Members of Braintree Council discussed plans for the health centre on the former Premdor and Rockways site in Swan Street, Sible Hedingham.
Council leader Graham Butland said the head of the Essex National Commissioning Board had confirmed there were talks between the NHS and the two practices involved regarding the feasibility of doing this.
He said: “These discussions are still continuing but that in principle he saw no objection to the scheme.
“But, I have to say, he did say it will then need to take its place in a list of priorities across the whole of Essex.”
